Understanding Psychological Disorders: Personality Disorders

There are two types of psychological disorder, someone suffering from an ego-dystonic disorder is aware of their illness and the symptoms can be very distressing for them such as someone suffering from bipolar or OCD. On the other end of the spectrum there are ego-syntonic disorders where people suffering either have no idea of the symptoms ¬†or don’t view any of them as a problem.

Personality disorders tend to fall into the ego-syntonic category and so many do not even get diagnosed. They are defined as ‘ a psychological disorder marked by inflexible, disruptive and enduring behavior patterns that ¬†impair social and various other functionality.

They are chronic and enduring syndromes creating noticeable problems in life, there are many varieties and psychologists are still trying to figure out biological psychological and social roots for them.
