Defined as ‘the transition period from childhood to adulthood, extending from puberty to independence’, adolescence is a struggle everyone goes through in life. It is the need to stand out and belong at the same time, and can be tough for most people, but it is a vital stage in our developmental process.
Erik Erikson and his 8 stages of development have helped psychologists understand the phases we go through during the growth of our knowledge, bodies and brains. Each stage is defined by its own issues and crises. This video takes us through these stages, along with the crucial emerging into adulthood, the differences between fluid and crystalline intelligence and the issues of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
There is no doubt that the teen adolescent phase is tricky, but for a human, every stage of development, though terrifying and difficult, helps us become the unique individuals we all are.
