The Brain and Its Functions

In the early 1800’s, Franz Joseph Gall theorised that our personalities were linked to skull morphology. While this study of phrenology was completely wrong he also theorised that different parts of the brain control specific aspects of our behaviour. In this he was onto something huge.

Today, we know that different parts of the brain have specific functions, with different areas controlling speech, vision, cognition, etc. This explains the links between the brain and the mind, showing that what the mind ‘is’ is controlled by what the brain does.

This video takes us through our own brilliant brains, from the old ancestral parts, to specialised association areas and clearly shows just how closely psychology and biology are intertwined.
