The Cost of Living on Mars

Scientists have been debating for decades about whether or not there is life on Mars, and recently that has expanded into figuring out whether we could make our own mission to Mars and set up permanent residence. Indeed Elon Musk believes it possible; he even goes as far to state that up to 80,000 people could feasibly live there within two decades! But there would be a phenomenal cost.

First we have to consider the cost of travel, which Elon Musk states can be done with Space X for $36 Billion! Then there’s the cost of shelter once there, which can be up to $267 million! Then the cost of sustenance, a years supply of food and water can cost up to $42 million! It would cost about $15 million to set up sustainable land and expanding can cost up to $20.9 billion especially if including enough plants to breathe unassisted!

On top of this, an email or one minute phone call will cost about $200 bringing a total up to about 121 billion, though Elon Musk says he can do it for 48 Billion! An incredible amount of money! But could it be worth it to end up living on Mars?
