The Final Days of the Battle of Okinawa

The Battle of Okinawa is considered one of the bloodiest in the Pacific War of World War Two. The battle lasted 82 days from April to June in 1945. The Empire of Japan lost 77,166 soldiers who either committed suicide or were killed. Allied forces lost 14,009. In addition to the losses of their troops, approximately 42,000 – 150,000 local Japanese civilians also lost their lives.

This video provides a glimpse into the last few days of the Battle of Okinawa as American forces traverse challenging terrain in search of any remaining Japanese resistance. The troops enter villages and round up civilians they suspect of supplying guerrilla fighters to Japanese forces and transport them to internment camps.
