The July Crisis and the Start of World War One: 1914 Timeline

This timeline shows the major events and decisions made by politicians in what’s known as ‘The July Crisis’ following the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand on 28th June 1914. The event triggered a major diplomatic crisis between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, and with the rest of Europe locked into a complex alliance system┬áthe wheels were in motion to cause the most destructive war in Europe up to that point.
