The 2014 Israel – Gaza Crisis Explained in 3 Minutes

July 2014 saw the Israeli Palestinian conflict reach renewed heights, developing the largest scale of warfare between the two since 2009.

The trigger for the conflict and its escalation that resulted in more than 400 deaths was the kidnap and killing of three male Israeli students in the West Bank. Revenge attacks saw more than 1000 airstrikes target Gaza which resulted in rockets being fired by Hamas into Israel. Heavily defended by its Iron Dome defence system, Israel nullified almost every strike.

Retaliatory actions were taken by both sides which saw events spiral and Israel make incursions into to Gaza to destroy tunnels created under the boarder by Hamas in order for them to launch strikes inside Israel.
