France’s Greatest General? Napoleon’s Victories

Despite an arguably more impressive record as a legislator and statesman, it is Napoleon’s military exploits which continue to dominate his image in popular culture. Looking at this chart of his record as a commander in the French Revolutionary Wars, it’s not hard to see why. In his entire career he was only defeated 6 times, an accomplished record even in the view of his most vocal critics.
